At what age is it appropriate for our boys to wear a 'cup' for football? Maybe it's a personal preference and really about support and comfort. In reading through the internet and becoming a little more educated this might help you decide as to whether or not it's time to purchase a cup for your child. Also, if your child is on the smaller size you can possibly order an extra small at your local retailer.
According to Dr. Anthony Atala, "Testicular injury can be very serious " and result in testicular loss if not treated in time. A testicle can be bruised from a blunt trauma to the area; there could be internal bleeding in the scrotum, testicular fracture, or even testicular rupture. Slapstick comedy may make groin injuries seem amusing, but they are no laughing matter. There are plenty of children out there who have lost a testicle because too much time elapsed between when their injury occurred and when they were treated,"
So, I hope this helps some parents decide as to whether or not a cup is necessary at this time. For me, anything I can do to help my son have less injury - the better..:)
